The Campus Mail Service is located in the Mail Room on the corner of South Davis and East Patterson across from the University Club.
We provide many services to the University, including daily pickup and delivery of mail to over fifty locations on campus. The U.S. Mail is picked up and delivered to the Kirksville Post Office daily. We deliver only University mail and do not handle personal, off-campus business, political, or for-profit mail.
For your convenience, the campus mail facility now has an after hours deposit box between the garage doors at 515 E. Patterson (across from the University Club). The opening is 2” high by 11” wide. Please separate your mail into Campus and Outbound using rubber bands. The drop box will be emptied at 7:00 A.M. Monday through Friday.
We do not knowingly meter personal mail. Please do not have personal mail or packages delivered to you on campus. WE ACCEPT NO LIABILITY FOR PERSONAL MAIL OR PACKAGES.
The Campus Mail Service staff looks forward to serving your written communication needs. If you have questions or need assistance please call x4277.

Rubber bands for bundling and mail trays for large mailings are available from Campus Mail Service.
The postage machine will seal all regular size envelopes (#10, 9, 6 3/4) which have a dovetail seal. To seal, the flaps must be shingled, that is each flap should extend over the flap of the preceding envelope. Our meter will not seal 6x9 or 9x12 envelopes with the flap on the short side.
Please notify the Campus Mail Service one day in advance of a large mailing (1,000 or more pieces). If sending out a large mailing, please plan ahead. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday are heavy mail days. We cannot guarantee that all mail received at noon will be processed and delivered to the Post Office by the end of the business day.
ADDRESSING OFF-CAMPUS MAIL ENVELOPES
Each envelope must have a complete mailing address (including street and ZIP code) and a complete return address (including Division or Department name or backcharge account).
It is important to remember that the address where the mail is to be delivered must appear on the line immediately above the city, state and ZIP code line.
For example:
Grand Products Co.
100 Major St.
PO Box 200 ---------------- Mail will be delivered here
Memphis TN 38134-0200
Grand Products Co.
PO Box 200
100 Major St. - ---------------- Mail will be delivered here
Memphis TN 38134-0200
An address in a foreign language is permissible, provided the names of the city, province and or country are indicated in English.
OUTGOING CERTIFIED AND REGISTERED LETTERS
All supplies for your preparation of certified and registered mail are available from Campus Mail Services.
When time permits, we combine letters from each division and office to obtain the savings available through First Class Presort.
In order to utilize First Class Presort, the letters must be sorted by ZIP code. For the Campus Mail Service employees, the best way to receive a large mailing from an office is in ZIP code order. Please call us in advance for mail trays (they work better than box tops). The second best way is sorted in three categories: Kirksville, other Missouri, and outside Missouri. Every effort will be made to obtain presort rates if you notify us that your mailing is in ZIP code order.
Just 500 letters meeting presort requirements each day can save the University money.
STANDARD MAIL (THIRD CLASS BULK)
Printed matter weighing less than 16 ounces may be sent as Standard Mail. For this standard, printed matter means paper on which words, letters, characters, figures, images or any combination not having the character of a bill or statement of account or of actual or personal correspondence and are reproduced by any process other than handwriting or typewriting.
Computer-prepared material is considered printed matter. It is not considered to have the character of actual or personal correspondence.
Computer generated signatures are acceptable for Standard Mail pieces, if computer printed on each mailing piece (not photocopies). Pen or ink signatures make the mailing First Class, not bulk.
Standard Mail is not sealed against postal inspection. Regardless of physical closure, the mailing of articles at Standard Mail rates of postage is consent by the mailer to postal inspection of the contents.
Campus Mail Service or Publications will go over your mailing pieces before it is printed to make sure it conforms with mail preparation requirements. Contact Roger Marsh at Campus Mail Services (x4277) or Teresa Wheeler at Publication (x4161).
Standard Mail is processed for the Post Office by our staff after the campus department has packaged and labeled the mailing according to Post Office requirements. Please allow 2 days after your mailing has arrived in the mailroom for our staff to complete processing.
Each standard mail (third class) bulk mailing must consist of a minimum of 200 pieces or 50 pounds. All pieces in the mailing must be identical in size, weight, content and color.
All standard bulk mailing must arrive in the mailroom in either postal letter trays or flat tubs. Tubs and trays are available from the mailroom.
Standard mail must include:
1. Proper return address:

Second -- division, office
Third -- 100 E. Normal Street
Last line -- Kirksville, MO 63501-4221
2. The proper format of Non-Profit Permit must be on mailing pieces.
We encourage the use of the standard Campus Mail Envelope. These envelopes are available at the Truman Bookstore.
Please address your on-campus mail envelopes for faculty/staff with the name of the division, department, or office, NOT by room numbers. Address envelopes to on-campus students using both residence hall and room number.
Bundle mail for large on-campus mailings (50 pieces or more) by divisions, departments, offices, or residence halls.
